Client: IM Properties

Project overview

Peddimore, a strategically important development in Birmingham, is set to become a critical economic asset in the Midlands. Spanning 71 hectares on the outskirts of Birmingham, close to essential transport routes, this high-quality development is designed to be a premier location for national and international manufacturing and logistics businesses.

The project's vision, underpinned by IM Properties, focuses on creating a workplace environment that is not only functional but also enriches work-life balance. This development will bring significant employment opportunities to the region.

  • A 100m diameter signalised roundabout on a significant transport link
  • A pedestrian/cycle bridge providing a valuable link across the A38
  • On-site roads, drainage and landscaping
  • Working collaboratively with the contractor

BWB's role

Connectivity

We played a crucial part in the transformation of Peddimore and the development of this strategically important development by providing a range of design services in relation to both on-site and off-site infrastructure.

Recognising the importance of connectivity, we developed a comprehensive transport and infrastructure strategy. This included significant modifications to the existing A38 by introducing a new large, signalised roundabout, which now provides the main access into the development whilst not compromising the capacity of a main arteria into/out from Birmingham.

The layout of the new roundabout also considered the introduction of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge, providing valuable connectivity across the very busy highway. We were instrumental in developing an aesthetically strong design that consider buildability and future maintenance.

Collaboration

Our on-site civil and structural engineering input helped create a platform for 'smart' buildings to employ novel battery technology. A range of design solutions were employed to help deliver the associated earthworks, drainage, and new roads on-site that now support the development, as well as new vehicle and pedestrian infrastructure off-site, which improves connectivity locally and beyond.

Key to this Project’s success was BWB’s collaborative working with the contractor to ensure design solutions which were commensurate with their phasing of the development. This allowed the project to move forward at pace, whilst still allowing for value engineering ideas to be captured throughout the construction phasing.
