Resorts World Birmingham represents a landmark £150m development by Genting UK Ltd, setting a new standard for leisure and entertainment complexes. This multifaceted destination is strategically located near the NEC Arena, significantly enriching the area's entertainment offerings. The development skillfully combines a diverse array of facilities, including a casino, a four-star hotel with additional five-star suites, a comprehensive spa with a 15m pool and fitness suite, extensive conference and banqueting facilities, a retail outlet centre, a multi-screen cinema, numerous food and beverage outlets, and ample car parking.
Aiming to cater to a wide audience, Resorts World Birmingham has successfully established itself as a comprehensive entertainment hub, offering various activities that appeal to a broad spectrum, from shopping and dining to entertainment and relaxation. This commitment to diversity and excellence was recognised with the 2015 ACE Engineering Excellence Award in the Building Structures Category and the IStructE West Midlands Arts and Entertainment Project of the Year in 2013.

Comprehensive engineering solutions
Our involvement in the Resorts World Birmingham project was instrumental from the outset, providing a comprehensive suite of engineering and consultancy services that played a pivotal role in bringing the vision for this ambitious project to life. We were tasked with developing commercially viable design solutions that met the client's specific requirements, including the challenge of incorporating large-span, clear spaces essential for the casino, conference suite, cinema, and underground service yard, all under the added complexity of supporting a hotel structure above.
Advanced 3D modelling
To navigate these challenges, we leveraged advanced 3D modelling software for structural design, facilitating accurate cost estimation and enhancing the visual planning process. This approach enabled our team to explore innovative engineering solutions that ensured the stability and integrity of the entire structure. One of the key successes of our involvement was addressing the client's specification for large-span spaces without compromising on the aesthetic or functional aspects of the development.
